How Do I Report an Oil Spill in Texas?
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Texas' coal-fired power plants are one of the largest polluters in the state, even ranking ahead of oil refineries and natural gas-fired power plants. In addition, oil spills and production in Texas have contributed to poor water quality in some areas. To combat the effects of water and air pollution in the state, the Texas General Land Office created the Oil Spill Prevention and Response Program, an agency dedicated to stopping, containing and cleaning up oil spills. To report spills, travelers should contact the agency at any time at 800-832-8224.
